About OncoPLEX

OncoPLEX is a formula that provides concentrated glucoraphanin (aka sulforaphane glucosinolate or SGS) obtained from broccoli seed extract, the most concentrated cruciferous source, via a patented procedure. Glucoraphanin is a naturally occurring, water-soluble, heat-stable phytochemical found in cruciferous vegetables which is metabolized in the body to active SFN (isothiocyanate sulforaphane). According to researchers, the latter not only encourages the production of detoxification enzymes but also fosters long-lasting antioxidant activity. Consequently, the body is provided with potent cardiovascular, nervous, and immune system support, which contribute to the individual’s optimal health throughout their adult life. Each OncoPLEX capsule contains 30mg of glucoraphanin.

How OncoPLEX Works

Scientists at John Hopkins University School of Medicine were the first to isolate sulforaphane in 1992. From that point forward, more than 500 scientific studies have been conducted on both sulforaphane and its precursor, glucoraphanin, providing evidence that they deliver strong antioxidant support while also having positive effects on the regulation of cell life and the metabolism of the cells. It became apparent that both SFN and glucoraphanin contribute to good health. Therefore, a diet rich in cruciferous vegetables is a step in the right direction if optimal health is the goal.

A single capsule of OncoPLEX contains glucoraphanin amounts that equate to 8oz of broccoli or 0.33oz of broccoli sprouts. It should be noted that researchers found out that 3-day-old broccoli sprouts and broccoli seeds provide much higher concentrations of glucoraphanin compared to the mature vegetable.

Health Benefits of Glucoraphanin

The myrosinase enzyme helps convert glucoraphanin obtained from food to SFN through an activity that is initiated during food preparation (slicing and cutting) and chewing. Besides, microorganisms that live in the gastrointestinal tract also produce SFN from glucoraphanin. This is a procedure of supreme importance for the production of SFN because heat can easily inactivate the myrosinase enzyme; hence, stop SFN production.

After being converted to SFN, glucoraphanin is evidenced to have a long-lasting antioxidant effect (crucial to maintaining the healthy function of organism tissues, and cells) while also being a critical inducer of Phase II detox enzymes. The antioxidant enzymes that are generated via the process mentioned above are believed to have a significant contribution to the maintenance of vitamins A, E, and C while also participating in their recycling as well.

Research also suggests that SFN may also promote eye health and support a healthy response to inflammation. Ongoing research also puts SFN under the microscope for potential positive effects on the gastrointestinal microflora and the immune system. They also provide a protective effect on cells, as they are found to activate checkpoint 2 kinase, inhibit tubulin polymerization and histone deacetylase activity, and maintain normal cellular life cycles. All these activities help balance cytokine, promote normal cell growth, and assist in gene regulation. No wonder SFN and glucoraphanin are often regarded and referred to as “lifespan essentials”.

According to human and test-tube studies, other potential benefits of SFN include:

  • Anti-cancer effect – SFN is known for its anticancer attributes as it is found to reduce the number and size of various cancer cell types. The fact that concentrated forms of SFN release detoxification and antioxidant enzymes that protect cancer-causing substances (aka carcinogens) indicates that it may also help prevent cancer cell growth.
  • Heart health – SFN may improve heart health in several different ways. For example, it may help reduce inflammation, which could result in the narrowing of the arteries (a leading cause of heart disease). It may also help prevent heart disease by lowering high blood pressure.
  • Type-2 diabetes effect – SFN may also come with antidiabetic qualities. Those with type-2 diabetes have a hard time maintaining healthy blood sugar levels as they cannot effectively transport sugar from the bloodstream to the cells of their body. Studies have shown that consuming 150 µmol of sulforaphane (or equivalent broccoli sprout extract) on a daily basis can affect blood sugar levels. It is also believed that SFN can reduce fasting glucose levels by nearly 7% and improve a marker indicating long-term glucose control, namely hemoglobin A1c.
  • Sun & brain protection – Sulforaphane may protect the skin from sun-caused UV-related damage. It may also have a beneficial effect on people facing brain damage after brain injury by reducing mental decline and improving recovery.
  • Improve bowel movement – Recent studies have shown that eating 20gr of broccoli sprouts can improve symptoms related to constipation. The studies refer to SFN-rich broccoli, though, rather than alfalfa sprouts, which do not contain sulforaphane.
