About Acanthopanax 10

Acanthopanax 10 is an herbal formula that is also referred to as Wu Jia Jian Pian and is used to help support normal muscle and joint function. Acanthopanax 10 is designed to alleviate the pain that is caused by inflammation or repeated injury of the tendons. Part of its role is to help strengthen the tendons and promote bone health, which is why it can also be effective when treating arthralgia. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Acanthopanax 10 is also used to (1) nourish the kidney and liver, (2) combat kidney kidney-essence deficiency, and (3) fight liver blood deficiency.

How Acanthopanax 10 Works

The primary target of Acanthopanax 10 is to help those with tendon weakness and repeated injuries of the joints that could come from laxness of the tendons. From the Chinese viewpoint, tendon weakness is considered a congenital disorder. The root cause of this condition is a deficiency of kidney jing (Essence) and liver blood insufficiency. This is because the liver and tendons are closely related to one another, with the latter being an extension of the first. According to TCM, kidney deficiency leads to congenital disorders, while the kidney jing is a liver blood contributor. Typical manifestations of kidney yang deficiency are lower back pain, cold feet, lower limb arthralgia, gout, sciatica, and Achilles tendonitis.

When the tendons are lax, the joints may get hurt. If this happens continuously over a long period of time, the joints may suffer minor, yet painful, injuries, which can lead to postural issues as well. Acanthopanax 10 is one of the few Chinese herbs that has been found to help strengthen not only the muscles and tendons but also the bones. Several other herbs with similar attributes are also incorporated in the Acanthopanax 10 formula, such as Pine node, Chaenomeles, Achyranthes, Eucommia, and Dipsacus. These ingredients also comprised the Cibotium Formula, a derivative of which is Acanthopanax 10. All the compounds combined help individuals facing problems such as fatigue, numbness, painful joints, stiffness, and limited movement. A list of health qualities related to each ingredient in the Acanthopanax 10 formula is provided in the following section.

Acanthopanax 10 ingredients

Wu Jia Pi (Acanthopanax) – Acanthopanax has warm properties and is tied to the Kidney and Liver meridians. It is used to dispel dampness and wind, strengthen the bones and tendons, and treat conditions such as pain and weakness in the lower back and knees, arthritis in the limbs, and rheumatic pain. The herb also contains various acids, oils, and vitamins A and B, which also help support the normal muscle and bone function.

Du Zhong (Eucommia) – Eucomnia is an herb that Traditional Chinese Medicine uses to treat renal dysfunction and even diabetic neuropathy. It can help with hypertension (high blood pressure) and offer relief of osteoarthritis. It also shows promising results in the prevention of diabetic complications while also helping reduce insulin resistance, lower blood sugar levels, and fight obesity.

Niu Xi (Achyranthes) – It is taken as a tonifier to clear damp-heat in the lower Jiao, remove toxicity, support spleen function, boost the immune system, and promote healthy joint function. In TCM, it is widely used to activate blood and unblock collaterals. It is often prescribed for the treatment of coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular diseases (i.e., cerebral thrombosis), osteoproliferation, arthritis, and gynecological disorders, including postpartum illness.

Xu Duan (Dipsacus) – The roots of this herb are used for their remarkable properties. Xu Duan helps stimulate the nervous system, supports the urinary system, aids the liver function, and benefits the skeletal system.

Gu Sui Bu (Drynaria) – In TCM, Gu Sui Bu (meaning “mender of shattered bones” in Chinese) is regarded as one of the most essential herbs that can help heal injured ligaments and damaged bones. It has warm properties and is related to the Liver and Kidney meridians. Drynaria can also help treat bleeding gums, tinnitus, toothaches, and alopecia (when applied topically, it stimulates hair growth).

Sang Ji Sheng (Loranthus) – It contributes to the increase of lifespan and it is also used to lower blood pressure, cure hepatitis, suppress tumor growth, promote microcirculation, prevent thrombosis, inhibit platelet aggregation, reduce myocardial oxygen consumption, enhance cardiac contractility, improve coronary circulation, increase coronary blood flow, and treat an abnormal heart rhythm.

Song Jie (Pine Node) – A herb with potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic qualities and warm properties. It is related to the Liver meridian and contributes to the relief of pain caused by injuries (external) and arthritis-caused ache. It also dries dampness and dispels wind while improving blood circulation as well.

Mu Gua (Chaenomeles) – It can harmonize the stomach, relax the tendons and muscles, calm the liver, and eliminate dampness. It is used to cure or prevent a variety of health conditions, such as dysentery, rheumatism, and more.

Gui Ban (Tortoise Shell) – It has sedative, tonic, and antipyretic attributes. Gui Ban can boost the immune function and enhance the number of leukocytes. It also improves hypoxia tolerance, increases coronary blood flow, retards coagulation, and helps restore yin deficiency.

Zhi Gan Cao (Licorice) – Among many others, licorice harmonizes the stomach, tonifies the spleen, restores pulse, and nourishes Qi.
