Banyan Botanicals Triphala Powder 1 pound Organic

About Triphala Powder

Triphala Powder is a full organic Banyan Botanicals formula that is based on Ayurveda principles to deliver potent digestive aid. Triphala (translated as three fruits) is the most used herbal formulation in Ayurvedic medicine for that purpose. It fosters a gentle, and, at the same time, natural, bowel cleanse as a means to detoxify the body and nourish its tissues. It also promotes the healthy functions of the genitourinary, respiratory, circulatory, and digestive systems.

Triphala Powder Uses

The formula features dried fruits, namely haritaki, bibhitaki, and amalaki, while also containing all of the tastes besides salty. Triphala Powder helps remove excess kapha, pitta, and vata from the body to enable it to regain its normal functioning and balance. Finally, it can be taken to maintain dosha balance. For that reason, it is consumed first thing in the morning, in the evening before bedtime, or at both times, according to your healthcare practitioner’s instructions.

7 Benefits of Triphala Powder

Triphala is a popular herb that offers unbelievable flexibility and versatility in its use. The widely used herbal formula (the powdered version) can be a key ingredient to a/an:

  • Hair rinse for damaged or dry hair – Pour four tablespoons of triphala powder into one quart of water and bring to boil. Let it simmer for 10 minutes and then allow the solution to cool. There is no need to strain. Slowly pour the wash over your hair once it has reached a comfortable temperature and massage the scalp thoroughly every now then. Leave for 20-30 minutes and wash your hair like you always do. For depleted, frizzy or dry hair, you can add sesame oil (2 tablespoons will do) in the mixture. The particular wash will also foster thick healthy hair and vibrant color.
  • Eyewash – To make the needed triphala tea, boil half a teaspoon triphala powder in one cup of water for two minutes. Strain using a doubled over cheesecloth until the tea has no particles to avoid eye irritation. Let the tea cool completely before you wash your eyes. Remember to blink your eyes when you pour the wash (an eye washing cup will help) to let the tea circulate and cleanse the area. This practice will help rejuvenate the eye, especially after long hours in front of a computer screen. The same triphala tea can also be used to wash the sensitive areas of your face and body, as well as excessively oily areas.
  • Skin cleanser – You can use triphala powder to create an exfoliant – mix it with enough warm coconut oil until you make a paste and scrub your face with it. If you want to give discolored or dull skin a refreshed look, let the paste sit for around 10 minutes before you rinse it off with lukewarm water.
  • Toothpaste – Triphala has potent astringent properties that can help remove the buildup of toxins on the tongue, gums, and teeth while also getting rid of plaque from the teeth. Form a paste by mixing a small amount of the powder with enough water and scrub the teeth with it. You can also massage your gums with the same paste. You will probably not like the taste, and it may leave your mouth feeling a bit dry, but you will be amazed by the results. For sensitive gums, you can switch from making a paste into creating a mouthwash.
  • Scalp cleanser – Apply triphala topically and get rid of the buildup of toxins on your scalp. To achieve that, create a paste by mixing one tablespoon of triphala powder with an equal amount of neem powder. Then moisten with enough water. You will know the consistency of the paste is just right when it reminds you that of pancake batter. Apply the paste to the scalp and massage with your fingertips to help exfoliate the skin. Then, rinse.
  • Nourishing jam – When ghee and honey are combined in Ayurveda, they have the ability to rejuvenate the tissues, especially when paired with herbs that help recover from stress and balance vata. Create a nourishing jam by mixing one tablespoon honey with equal amounts of triphala powder and ghee. Consume in the evenings or mornings instead of plain triphala.

Of course, you can use triphala powder to make a tea that will accompany you with your daily endeavors and foster a strong immune system, healthy bowel movements, and many more. Triphala tea is found to support the colon – an area that natural toxins (aka ama in Ayurveda) can easily accumulate. This toxin buildup, in turn, prevents the assimilation and absorption of the nutrients, which means that the bones, hair, and nails do not receive the required nutrition.

Triphala Powder Side Effects

If you use triphala powder to make an eyewash, take note that you should consult with your healthcare professional if you have a medical condition in the eyes before you try the eyewash. The same applies to pregnant or breastfeeding women or people that have a problem/medical condition or take medications.

The suggested use is ¼ to ½ teaspoon with warm water. However, your health practitioner will determine the right dosage for you.
