Description

Current calcium intake is one-fourth to one-third of what anthropologists believe humans consumed 10,000 years ago. So it's more than likely that we're not consuming the amount of dietary calcium we need to maintain healthy bone density. Supplementation with the well-absorbed calcium malate found in Thorne's Calcium-Magnesium Malate promotes good bone density. Calcium-Magnesium Malate's other chief ingredient, magnesium, is also essential for maintaining normal bone density. In addition, magnesium helps maintain normal cardiac rhythmicity, healthy pulmonary function, and normal blood glucose regulation. Magnesium and calcium appear to work synergistically in the body, with both being necessary to maintain normal blood pressure, muscle contraction, and support for dysmenorrhea. Calcium-Magnesium Malate provides a 1:1 ratio of calcium and magnesium in the well-absorbed malate form.

Magnesium is present in all cells of the body and is involved in more than 600 enzymatic processes. Body functions requiring magnesium include nerve conduction, methyl-group transfer, conversion of pyridoxine to pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (the active form of vitamin B6), energy production, and muscle relaxation. Magnesium depletion can impair mineral homeostasis by reducing the activation of vitamin D.

The appropriate intake ratio of calcium to magnesium is undecided, with some authors in the scientific literature supporting a 2:1 ratio (twice as much calcium as magnesium), while others recommend a 1:1 ratio. Calcium-Magnesium Malate provides a 1:1 ratio.
