About Ma Zi Ren Wan
Also referred to as Apricot Seed and Linum Formula, Ma Zi Ren Wan is a formula used for constipation marked by dryness, heat, and stagnation. It is similar to Run Chang Wan but much better suited for heat-induced dryness as it has replaced the dried stir-fried cannabis seeds of the original formula with ingredients that better moisten or lubricate the intestines and aid in the movement of the stool. The Apricot Seed and Linum Formula is used in treating constipation related to childbirth, old age, debility, or febrile disease. It should be noted that the cannabis seeds of the product contain no mind-altering constituents (i.e., cannabinoid) found in other parts of the plant.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the formula is used in cases of:

Health Problems Associated by Constipation
Besides hemorrhoids, anal fissures, fecal incontinence, which can turn into particularly painful conditions, constipation is also related to the following health issues:
Tension headaches – Constipation causes anxiety and unpleasant feelings of bloating. Sometimes, being dehydrated (not drinking enough water throughout the day) can lead to headaches and result in dry and compacted fecal matter. Also, toxin buildup during constipation could induce headaches.
Urinary Tract Infection – The hard, dry stools accumulate in the rectum when you are constipated and result in the compression of the bladder neck due to rectum distention.
Breakouts – Some skin conditions may stem from problems in the gut, including dark circles under the eyes, acne, puffiness, and rashes. The accumulation of toxins inside the body during constipation can be visible on the skin via blemishes.
Loss of appetite – Constipation can be related to a distended and bloated abdomen, which, in turns, makes eating food feel like a struggle. This is mainly due to the interruption of the brain-digestive system communication. Since the body has an issue (constipation) it shuts down the urge to eat and focuses on taking care of the problem it faces.
Bad breath – A Danish study claims that constipation can give you bad breath and a bad taste in the mouth. This could be attributed to the proliferation of toxin gut bacteria that produce bad-breath-causing gases.
Ma Zi Ren Wan Ingredients
Bai Shao (White Peony Root) – It regulates menstrual issues and gynaecological disorders caused by blood deficiency (i.e., uterine bleeding) and nourishes the blood. It is also found to alleviate pain from liver yang rising, including abdomen and limb spasms and cramping, as well as dizziness, headache, and abdominal pain from dysentery. Finally, it preserves yin and adjusts wei and ying levels whose imbalance is exhibited via night sweats, spontaneous sweating, and continuous sweating.
Da Huang (Rhubarb) – An ingredient that purges accumulations and drains heat (abdominal pain and distention, high fever, yellow tongue coating, thirst, profuse sweating, constipation). It is also effective against dysentery and jaundice as it drains damp-heat through the stool. Plus, Da Huang dispels blood stasis (abdominal masses, amenorrhea, and fixed pain caused by blood stasis), reduces fire toxicity (hot skin and burns) and clears heat.
Hou Po (Magnolia Bark) – It is found to transform and warm phlegm, promote the movement of Qi, resolve stagnation, and transform dampness. It also directs rebellious lung Qi (stifling sensation in the chest, phlegm with coughing, and wheezing) downward and fights food stagnation, diarrhea, dampness in spleen and stomach, and vomiting.
Huo Ma Ren (Hemp Seeds) – An herb that combats constipation caused by yin deficiency, clears heat (hence, promotes the healing of oral or topical sores), and nourishes and moistens the intestines.
Xing Ren (Apricot Seed) – A compound used to calm wheezing due to cold or hot patterns (i.e., dry cough), stop cough, unblock the bowels, and moisten the intestines.
Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange) – Found to effectively tonify Qi, break up Qi stagnation, direct Qi downward, expel focal distention, transform phlegm, unblock bowels, and reduce accumulations. It is used to combat abdominal or epigastric pain and constipation caused by stagnant Qi, distention.
