Our reality is largely created by our points of view (our beliefs). If you are Christian, you have a point of view, if Muslim a different point of view and the same with both Republicans and Democrats.
In our personal lives you may have had the experience of waking one morning and feeling good, life feels perfect, you are relaxed, later in that same day you notice that you are feeling tight, you don’t feel relaxed in fact you may feel angry. What has changed with you?
Generally, if you can take a moment to explore what has changed it turns out that your point of view has changed. If you have the time to contemplate this (by contemplation I mean a space that is free from urgent or intense emotions) you will realize that points of view are very powerful in our lives and in some cases have very intense emotions and feeling attached with them.
People are willing to go to great lengths to maintain a point of view, even die. Within a point of view we are convinced that something is happening that shouldn’t be happening or that something that should be happening isn’t. And to make things interesting the assessment that “something is missing” is cyclically displaced by the feeling that “This is it”. Over and over these cycles are repeated in our life.
What we are now witnessing with the world crisis in banking is dissolution of a widely held point of view; you work hard, invest wisely and set aside money for your retirement and you are set. From this point of view, outside authoritative sources and an internal logic are used to support and validate all of your sacrifices for this view.
What was believed to be concrete one day turns to sand.
In genetics it is said that genes cock the hammer on the gun and that the environment pulls the trigger. The environment can be chemicals, pollutants, nutritionally poor quality foods and points of views.
Chronically held points of view will have profound dis-regulating effects on metabolic pathways, endocrine systems, glucose regulation and creation of free radicals.
The energy deployed in constructing this bondage can be freed into a state that transcends bias and limitation.
One way to do this is resting actively throughout the day for short moments repeated many times. What that means is that something appears, whether it’s a thought or emotion, a sensation or experience, and rather than getting involved in the story about that experience, initially the choice is made to rest as awareness, to acknowledge awareness. to sustain the essence of awareness rather than getting involved in all the old descriptions and ideas that have been used to describe everything. That is one way of practicing short moments repeated many times.
